We are offering a summer placement for a university student with an interest in marketing or journalism.

We are offering a summer placement for a university student with an interest in marketing or journalism. You will support the Acorns Volunteering Team by creating interesting articles about our volunteering processes, opportunities and general information about the benefits of volunteering for our new Knowledge Hub on our website.

This placement is available in the summer holidays, would suit students on their summer break from university and is a great opportunity to put your research and writing skills to the test in a ‘real world’ situation.

You will gain experience in copy writing to support your studies, whilst also giving back to a local charity.

Applicants will be required to upload a piece of writing on the subject of ‘What are the health benefits of volunteering’ along with their application. The piece should be no longer than 500 words and should be your own work.

The placement will run throughout July and August. Ideally the successful candidate will be able to offer between 1 and 3 days a week support across this period.

Specific days are negotiable, as is location, which can be either remote, hybrid or office based to suit your needs.

Interviews will take place week commencing 15th June, with the role taking place between 6th July and 28th August.

Why we want you

A parent never imagines their child will be diagnosed with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition. But when the unimaginable happens, Acorns steps in, helping families cope at every stage of their child’s life and beyond, wherever and whenever they need it.

Our dedicated teams provide specialist palliative care for babies, children and teenagers, and support for their families. This support is offered from our three hospices, based in Worcester, Birmingham and Walsall, and in the community.

What you will be doing

  • Work with the Acorns Volunteering Team to gather information about potential interesting themes to write about
  • Research content to develop ideas and create engaging pieces that will encourage people to volunteer with Acorns
  • Create interesting and engaging articles about different volunteering related topics to be posted to our Knowledge Hub
  • Work with the Marketing and Communications Team to check the content and successfully upload to our website

The skills you need

  • Experience of researching potential content ideas
  • Experience of producing engaging and persuasive pieces of copy in a study or work-based setting
  • A logical mind, with the ability to work with large quantities of data and draw conclusions from it
  • Organised and curious
  • An understanding of the need for confidentiality and ethical practice when working with organisational data
  • Able to work independently, with support when needed

What's in it for you

  • To help a local charity
  • To make a difference in your local community
  • To connect with likeminded people and make new friends
  • To boost your CV
  • There are opportunities to progress to other roles
  • Training will be provided
