A parent never imagines their child will be diagnosed with a life limiting or life-threatening condition. But when the unimaginable happens, Acorns Children’s Hospice steps in.

Our dedicated teams provide specialist tailored care, including complex medical care, short breaks and emotional and practical support for babies, children and young people and their families, at our three hospices in Birmingham, Walsall and Worcester as well as in the community.

The IT Support Volunteer supports the hospice by helping staff, patients, and families make effective and confident use of technology. This role enhances care delivery, reduces digital barriers, and improves day-to-day operations through practical IT support and guidance.

Typical Duties

  • Provide practical IT support for staff, patients, and families, including basic troubleshooting, setting up laptops, tablets, phones and printers, and helping people access devices for communication, entertainment or therapy.
  • Support use of common digital tools and systems, such as email, shared drives, Teams/Zoom, FaceTime, assistive technologies, accessibility features, and basic system navigation for new staff.
  • Offer guidance, including creating simple “how-to” instructions and helping people build confidence using technology.
  • Assist with appropriate digital administration tasks, such as data entry, spreadsheet formatting, maintaining digital records, and supporting IT equipment inventory.
  • Help keep devices ready for use across the hospice by preparing, resetting, cleaning, charging, and installing apps where needed.

Hours

Hours are flexible, but ideally either a Monday, Wednesday or Friday, between 10am – 2pm.

About Acorns Children's Hospice

A parent never imagines their child will be diagnosed with a life-limiting or life-threatening condition. But when the unimaginable happens, Acorns steps in, helping families cope at every stage of their child’s life and beyond, wherever and whenever they need it.

Our dedicated teams provide specialist palliative care for babies, children and teenagers, and support for their families. This support is offered from our three hospices, based in Worcester, Birmingham and Walsall, and in the community.
