We're looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to be our eyes and ears on the ground.
Our Marketing & Communications Leadruns our social media, email marketing, and website, but can't always be physically present at every event, group session, or community activity we run. This role fills that gap: being present, capturing authentic photos, short video clips, and quick notes from Bethel events that our team can turn into social posts, newsletters, and impact stories.
The core ask is simple: show up at the events we agree on together and capture what happens. (Travel will be reimbursed) Beyond that, the role is genuinely varied and flexible around what you're interested in:
- If you want to just focus on being present and taking content, that's great, that's the main job.
- If you'd like to take part in the events themselves (helping out, chatting to attendees), you're welcome to.
- If you're interested in supporting other Bethel projects between events, there's scope to get involved there too.
- If you're keen on the digital marketing side, you can take initiative on shaping content ideas yourself, rather than always waiting to be asked.
You won't be closely supervised, we'll give you a simple brief before each event and trust you to get stuck in, talk to people, and capture what's happening. You'll stay in touch with our team via a shared Monday board and regular check-ins.
What you'll do
- Attend Bethel events, group sessions, and community activities as agreed in advance via Monday com
- Take photos and short video clips of activities, attendees (with consent), volunteers, and staff in action
- Capture Bethel branding in shots where relevant (banners, signage, materials)
- Note down quick quotes, moments, or stories worth following up on for social media or newsletters
- Upload content promptly after each event to a central shared drive
- Follow a short shot-list brief provided ahead of each event
- Always check and respect whether attendees are comfortable being photographed
- Optionally: get involved in event activities, support other projects, or suggest content ideas, as much or as little as you'd like
What we're looking for
- Comfortable using a smartphone or camera to take good-quality photos and video (own equipment needed, smartphone is fine)
- Confident approaching people and asking for a quick photo or a few words
- Reliable, able to commit to agreed event dates
- Sensitive and respectful, some events involve vulnerable adults, new parents, and people accessing emotional support services
- Able to work independently once briefed, without close supervision
- An interest in community work, health, or family support is a bonus but not essential
Safeguarding
Because this role involves contact with vulnerable groups, you'll need to complete a short safeguarding briefing before your first event, and a DBS check may be required depending on the role and will be paid for. You'll never be left responsible for the well-being of attendees; your role is content, not care.
What you'll gain
- Real portfolio content from a working charity, across social media, print, and campaign use
- Genuinely flexible, on-call volunteering that fits around other commitments
- A reference after your minimum commitment period, and a route into similar or expanded roles at Bethel in the future if it's a good fit
- Direct experience of community and health-sector work in Birmingham
- The chance to be part of the story behind Bethel's YUMS, BUDS, Doula, and Rapha programmes
