Are you a good listener with a passion for supporting others?

Do you want to make a real difference in someone’s life?

We are looking for Volunteer Befrienders to join our team and offer companionship, encouragement, and a friendly ear to people who may be feeling isolated or facing challenges with their mental health and wellbeing.

What you’ll do:

  • Offer one-to-one support through regular chats or meet-ups
  • Build trusting relationships with individuals who may be lonely or socially isolated
  • Encourage confidence, motivation, and connection to community activities
  • Provide a positive and supportive presence
  • Support participants by using tools such as the WEMWBS (Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale) to assess and monitor their mental health and wellbeing

What we’re looking for:

  • Empathy, reliability, and good communication skills
  • A non-judgmental attitude and respect for confidentiality
  • Commitment of a few hours per week (days/times can be flexible)

What you’ll gain:

  • Experience in a supportive mental health and wellbeing setting
  • Training, supervision, and ongoing support (including how to use wellbeing assessment tools like WEMWBS)
  • The chance to develop new skills and meet like-minded people
  • The reward of knowing you’ve made a positive difference
