About Us:


Better Pathways is a Birmingham-based mental health and wellbeing charity dedicated to helping individuals move forward in life through support with employment, education, and training. We create opportunities that foster confidence, community connection, and personal growth.


Role Description:


We are looking for a passionate and patient Volunteer ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Tutor to support adults whose first language is not English. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys teaching and wants to make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals striving to improve their communication and integration skills.


Responsibilities:


  • Plan and deliver accessible, engaging ESOL sessions
  • Support learners in improving speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills
  • Adapt learning materials to suit a range of ability levels
  • Monitor learner progress and offer regular encouragement
  • Maintain a supportive and inclusive classroom environment


Person Specification:


  • Experience in ESOL teaching or tutoring (formal qualifications a bonus but not required)
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong sense of empathy
  • Confidence working with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to commit to a regular schedule over six months
  • Understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality (training will be provided)
