Detailed description

We are looking for multiple enthusiastic bilingual volunteers to join the BRIDGE research project as research assistants - Improving discharge guidance for South Asian families affected by Congenital Heart Disease. 


This is a multi-centre research project based in two NHS Trusts in the Midlands, UK. The study will be conducted in English and seven South Asian languages, and involves collaboration between researchers from Birmingham City University, University College London, Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, and University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust.


The project is looking for volunteers who:

• Are fluent in English and one of the following languages: Panjabi, Punjabi, Urdu, Gujarati, Bengali, Pashto, or Hindi.

• Can contribute 15–40 hours until late 2026 (~1–4 hours/week, flexible).

• Want to gain hands-on research experience (qualitative, quantitative, and linguistic validation procedures).

• Will be formally recognized and may be considered for co-authorship of publications based on contributions.


Roles:

• Translating, interpreting, and transcribing during the data collection.

• Supporting the research team with communication and cultural understanding.


You will be trained in the relevant skills for the role and be re-imbursed for travel costs. Preference will be given to students/volunteers with a health-related background based in Birmingham or Leicester; however, we welcome applications from those across England who can collaborate virtually.

About Birmingham City University

We are looking for bilingual volunteers to support the BRIDGE research project. This is a multi-centred project conducted in Leicester and Birmingham. The research aims to explore the experiences of South Asian parents of children under two years with CHD who have undergone cardiac interventions within their first year and the health care professionals caring for them.
