About the Role:

As a Sitting Service Volunteer with Carers Trust Solihull, you’ll provide vital companionship and support to individuals while giving their unpaid carers a much-needed break. Whether it’s sharing a friendly chat, playing a game, or simply being present, your time can make a real difference to someone’s day.


What You'll Do:

  • Offer friendly, respectful companionship to clients in their own home
  • Provide reassurance and emotional support
  • Be a reliable presence so family carers can take time for themselves
  • Observe and report any wellbeing concerns to the Carers Trust team


Skills and Qualities That Make a Great Volunteer:

  • Kindness, empathy, and a genuine desire to support others
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Patience and adaptability when supporting people with different needs
  • A good sense of humour and positive attitude
  • Respect for privacy, confidentiality, and boundaries
  • Reliable, trustworthy, and willing to work with others as part of a team


Helpful Experience (but not essential):

  • Personal or professional experience caring for others
  • Previous volunteering, especially in health, social care, or community roles
  • Understanding of diverse needs, including disabilities or long-term health conditions

We are a charity with a mission to support unpaid carers of all ages in Solihull. We know the challenges that carers face because of their caring role. There can be huge demands on a carer’s time, health, physical and emotional well-being. Our job is to make sure that someone is looking after them. We are here to offer advice, information, training, emotional and practical support and much needed time out or respite.
