Summary

Support young carers to access community activities, build confidence, and attend independently through practical, reliable volunteer support.

Detailed description

As a Community Befriender Volunteer for Young Carers, you will support young people aged 5 to 25 to access activities, clubs, training, and social opportunities they may otherwise miss because of their caring role.

You will work alongside a Young Carers Worker and, where appropriate, families to identify suitable opportunities, help make arrangements, and initially attend activities with the young person. Your role is to reduce barriers, build confidence, and gradually step back as the young carer becomes able to attend independently.

You will build positive, professional relationships, research options, support bookings, plan travel, escort to activities, complete brief records, and follow safeguarding and data protection procedures at all times.

You will receive induction, safeguarding training, and ongoing supervision. An enhanced DBS check and references are required.

This is a practical, rewarding role. Your support will reduce isolation, increase confidence, and help young carers enjoy the same opportunities as their peers while strengthening their independence and wellbeing.

About Carers Trust Solihull

We are a charity with a mission to support unpaid carers of all ages in Solihull. We know the challenges that carers face because of their caring role. There can be huge demands on a carer’s time, health, physical and emotional well-being. Our job is to make sure that someone is looking after them. We are here to offer advice, information, training, emotional and practical support and much needed time out or respite.
