Tour Guides interpret the history of Highbury for visitors through one-hour guided tours of the hall.
Detailed description
Highbury Hall Tour Guide Hours: Approximately 2 tours per month (open days permitting)
Role Purpose: Hall Tour Guides lead one-hour interpretive tours of Highbury, helping visitors understand the history and significance of the house and its connection to the Chamberlain family.
Overview: Tour Guides interpret the history of Highbury for visitors. Guides explain the significance of the Chamberlain family, highlight key features of the building, and provide context for areas not open to the public. The role involves engaging with diverse audiences and adapting tours to their interests. Volunteers develop confidence in public speaking, deepen their knowledge of local history, and contribute directly to heritage education at Highbury. Training: Volunteers receive a full day of training, practice tours, and ongoing mentor support before leading their own sessions, usually once a month.
All volunteers receive role specific training appropriate to their tasks. This may include safety briefings, site orientation, task demonstrations, and supervised practice. Additional training is offered when new tools, activities, or procedures are introduced.
