Become a valued member of our team by supporting our group sessions, where you’ll help sort, organise, and pack books for children in the local community.

The Children’s Book Project is a grassroots charity, powered by volunteers at every stage of what we do. At our Book HQ on Tyseley Energy Park,  we would love you to join us as a Children’s Book Volunteer, helping to oversee our regular book sorting events which take place during term time. We are a very friendly bunch and you will be working as part of a team. Your role will be to help our groups of volunteers who attend for the day, have the fullest insight into our work and help the day run smoothly.

On any typical day with us this role might include; helping to set up, instructing small teams of volunteers how to check, sort or box books, organising aspects of the session and informing volunteers about our work and ways in which they can help.

Our shifts and hours are flexible. Our days currently run Monday - Thursday during term time, 10am-3pm at Unit 6, Tyseley Energy Park, Hay Mills, Birmingham, B25 8DW.

Semi regular attendance helps us to plan.

About Children's Book Project

Nearly one million children in the UK do not own a single book of their own. We believe every child deserves the chance to grow up surrounded by stories and feel proud to be a reader.
The Children’s Book Project is a registered charity working with settings across the UK to redistribute thousands of pre-loved and surplus books to the children and families who need them most.

Our work is rooted in sustainability. We collect books that children have outgrown or no longer read and gift them to those living in the most disadvantaged circumstances. This year, we are on a mission to donate one million books. Through our project, children in local schools are able to choose and keep books of their own, many for the first time.
