We are looking for an individual who can engage with our day service members and encourage them to be involved in a variety of activities.

The Day Service volunteer’s main tasks:

  • To assist the day service supervisor in arranging arts and craft group activities e.g. The making of Birthday/Christmas cards and decorations, bookmarks, small gifts and painting and drawing activities.
  • Assisting members with entries into ExtraCare competitions
  • To assist the Activity Coordinator in arranging physical activities and games e.g., bowls, table tennis and Wii in communal areas
  • Encouraging and assisting members to partake in activities of their choice 
  • Organising and leading activities
  • To assist with refreshments
  • To liaise with members to identify which activities they are interested in

Key skills needed for this role:

  • Enjoys communicating with and spending time with people, particularly older people 
  • Demonstrates patience and understanding 
  • Trustworthy, honest, and reliable with effective time management skills 
  • Works well in a team and one to one

This role does not include the following tasks:

  • Personal care tasks
  • Administering medication                                            
  • Advice or support in relation to a person’s financial affairs
  • No transferring (manual handling) of residents

Training and Development:

  • Accessing training required to carry out the role and to further personal development
  • Accumulating relevant work experience
  • Direction and support to learn new skills
