The purpose of this role is to assist in the restaurant during mealtimes or to assist with the bar on evenings.

The Restaurant Volunteer’s main tasks:

  • To assist with serving food and drinks to the residents and their visitors
  • Assist with the cutting up of food if required 
  • Clearing tables and washing up
  • Providing glasses and cutlery if required
  • Cash handling and processing the payments for lunches and drinks
  • Operating a till
  • Keeping the restaurant area as tidy as possible and free from Health and Safety hazards

Key skills needed for this role:

  • Pleasant, friendly personality, patient with a mature attitude.
  • Trustworthy, honest, reliable.
  • Ability to work in a team and under own initiative

This role does not include the following tasks:

  • Personal care tasks
  • Administering medication                                            
  • Advice or support in relation to a person’s financial affairs
  • No transferring (manual handling) of residents
  • Assisting residents to eat

Training and Development:

  • Completion of a Food Hygiene Training course will be required (Organised by ExtraCare)
  • Accessing training required to carry out the role and to further personal development
  • Accumulating relevant work experience
  • Direction and support
