Role Overview & Responsibilities
We are looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Specialist Fundraising Trustee to join the Board of Focus Birmingham and bring strategic fundraising expertise, insight and professional networks to help shape the future sustainability of our organisation.
As we look to the future, we want to grow and diversify our voluntary income, with a particular focus on developing new and underrepresented income streams.
You will use your fundraising knowledge and experience to provide advice and insight to our Board and Executive Team, helping us develop a more balanced, resilient and growth-focused fundraising model.
A key part of the role will be supporting the development of corporate partnerships, individual giving and legacy fundraising. You will help us explore opportunities to build meaningful, long-term relationships with businesses and supporters, strengthen donor engagement and develop sustainable income streams that support Focus Birmingham's long-term ambitions.
You will provide strategic insight into areas such as corporate partnerships and sponsorship, regular and individual giving, donor journeys and stewardship, legacy and in-memory giving, major gifts, philanthropy and digital fundraising campaigns.
You will act as a trusted advisor and constructive challenger to the Executive Team, helping the organisation assess opportunities, consider investment and return, and ensure fundraising activity reflects best practice, ethical standards and appropriate governance.
Using your professional experience and networks, you will help Focus Birmingham strengthen relationships with businesses, supporters, donors and potential partners. Where appropriate, you will support introductions to corporate prospects, philanthropic networks and other organisations that could help extend our reach and impact.
As a Trustee, you will also act as an ambassador for Focus Birmingham, promoting our work and impact and championing innovative and forward-thinking approaches to fundraising across the organisation.
Alongside your specialist contribution, you will share the wider responsibilities of the Board, helping guide the charity's long-term strategy, sustainability and impact.
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience of building strategic corporate partnerships, sponsorships or CSR programmes
- Has expertise in individual giving, regular giving, donor journeys or mass fundraising
- Has experience developing or advising on legacy or in-memory giving programmes
- Has experience shaping, developing or scaling fundraising functions, particularly within growth or transformation environments
- Understands supporter engagement, stewardship and long-term relationship building
- Can provide strategic insight into major gifts, philanthropy or digital fundraising activity
- Has strong professional networks, ideally within the West Midlands or nationally
- Demonstrates strategic thinking and sound judgement
- Is confident supporting and constructively challenging senior leaders and contributing to Board discussions
- Is committed to the mission and values of Focus Birmingham
Time Commitment
Trustees are expected to attend four Board meetings each year and participate in relevant sub-committees, such as Fundraising or Business Development.
We would also welcome occasional strategic input outside of formal meetings and support with introductions to relevant businesses, supporters, donors and potential partners where appropriate.
