Detailed description
We are currently looking for several volunteers to directly assist our social prescribing service, across Birmingham and North Solihull.
Social prescribers work with people to find out what matters to them as many determinants of health are not "fixable" by doctors and medicine alone.
The role will be varied and we will endeavour to build it around your experience, what you would like from the opportunity, and the needs of the local area and designated Social Prescriber and those they are working with. As we provide a service across the whole of the city we will match you, where possible to your local area.
It could involve supporting clients directly, supporting the social prescriber and the wider team. It may include, being buddied up with someone who is isolated or lonely, filling out forms, taking someone to an appointment or group activities. Phoning clients, completing specific tasks based on your prior skills and experience as well as enabling you to gain, brush up on others. ,
The role will be varied and make a difference to you as a volunteer and to those you might be supporting/assisting.
Frequency:
Our main office is in Harborne. The role will be local to you if preferred. We anticipate a commitment of 2 - 4 hrs per week to suit. If you would like to volunteer for a longer period, this is absolutely possible.

- An interest in working with and for people over the age of 18+
- The ability to work with people from all backgrounds
- Be able to communicate with a non-judgmental approach, show empathy, actively listen
- Trustworthy, approachable, and reliable
- The ability to effectively and to build and maintain good relationships
- Maintain confidentiality
- Be flexible and adaptable to change
- Continue our commitment to deliver a high level of service
- Be able to use the Internet, and some basic Microsoft Office programs - TRAINING WILL BE PROVIDED
- Participate in induction, initial and ongoing training
- Occasional attendance at internal team meetings and social activities (if desired)
- Undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check
