We are looking for additional Trustees to join our Board of Trustees and help to support and develop our charity.
The Journey LGBT+ Asylum Group is a support group for LGBT+ asylum seekers and refugees in the West Midlands.
We are looking for additional Trustees to join our Board of Trustees and help to support and develop the organisation, ensuring members are at the heart of what we do. We are looking for people to bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role, and who will broaden the diversity of skills, knowledge and experience on our Board. We are particularly keen to hear from people with lived experience of the UK's asylum/migration system.
Trustees are volunteers who bring their skills and experience to oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They ensure that the Journey Group has a clear strategy, and that our activities are in line with our vision, mission, aims and values. Trustees work together to ensure good governance, and make sure our finances and resources are used well. They also play a role as ambassadors for the organisation and our work, and have legal responsibility for the charity.
Trustees should:
- Be committed to our mission, vision, aims and values
- Be committed to working in a team
- Have good communication skills in English, to be able to read documents and take part in discussions
- Be committed to speaking well about the organisation to others (eg funders, other charities, support organisations)
- Be able to devote the necessary time and effort to being an effective Trustee
Time commitment:
Trustees are expected to attend four Board meetings every year, including taking time to read papers between meetings. We also expect Trustees to be willing to commit some of their time to supporting the group in other ways. For example, attending activities, developing policies, advising on safeguarding or fundraising.
The majority of our activities and meetings take place in Birmingham. Some online participation is possible, but some attendance in person will be necessary.
