A unique opportunity to make a life changing difference Joining our Lourdes pilgrimage as a Care Volunteer is a chance to be part of something truly special .

Joining our Lourdes pilgrimage as a Care Volunteer is a chance to be part of something truly special. You’ll help support adults and young people who have disabilities, complex health needs, or limited mobility to experience the spiritual, emotional, and community life of Lourdes, something many could not do without your help.

This is a hands‑on, rewarding volunteer role where compassion, teamwork, and kindness matter far more than qualifications.

What You’ll Do

As a Care Volunteer, you will play a vital role in making the journey safe, comfortable, and positive. Your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing personal care such as washing, dressing, toileting and feeding
  • Offering mobility support, including assisting with transfers and using hoists safely
  • Giving companionship and emotional support, helping travellers feel included and valued
  • Assisting with practical needs, mealtimes, luggage, and activity support
  • Working closely with nurses, carers, and volunteers as part of a friendly, supportive team

You don’t need to be a healthcare professional, just someone with empathy, patience, and the confidence to support others with dignity. Training, guidance, and team support are provided.

Who This Role Is Ideal For

  • Student nurses, trainee healthcare professionals or anyone exploring a caring career
  • Individuals with personal or professional caring experience
  • Parishioners involved in pastoral or community outreach
  • Anyone with compassion, patience, and a desire to help others
  • Someone looking for a meaningful service experience and a journey they won’t forget

Your presence makes the pilgrimage possible.

To help cover the cost of travel, accommodation, and shared expenses, volunteers are asked to fundraise towards the cost of their place. Support and guidance is provided. We do have access to funding for student nurses and health professionals.
