As a Volunteer Van Driver you will collect donated shoebox gifts from many postcode areas in the West Midlands, or further if you choose.

We are a Christian organisation. The role of Van Driver does not require the volunteer to be a Christian.

Volunteer drivers will see the joy of those who have donated the shoebox gifts as they collect packed boxes from schools, churches and businesses. Those collecting from the West Midlands will take their load to our Coventry Processing Centre (near Junction 2 of the M6). Longer distance driving in the UK can be considered.

In many situations, the shoeboxes will be in cartons, so drivers need to be comfortable lifting and carrying. Manual handling guidance is given to all drivers to ensure this role is conducted safely.

Van drivers will use their own van or will be able to pick-up locally a van hired by us. You will collect shoeboxes over many agreed postcode areas. You will have a some choice over the days you volunteer and the locations assigned to you.

You are encouraged to find a Driver’s Mate to accompany you, helping with navigation and lifting.

This activity is mainly in November. This is a seasonal role with a new commitment, ideally, in September/October each year.

A phone with good reception is necessary. A phone or computer able to communicate by email is necessary.

Some types of expenses can be claimed.

About Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan's Purse International

We encourage UK individuals and groups to send their love in a shoebox, packing it full of simple gifts to be given unconditionally to a child overseas.

The children are chosen solely based on need by a church local to them, and each child will have the opportunity to hear of the great love of Jesus.

For many, this will be their only gift and, perhaps, their first toy. For some, the school supplies mean that they can now go to school. For others, the toothbrush is the best thing in the shoebox. To know that they are loved and not forgotten will bring them hope for a brighter future.

This is an annual campaign and we use seasonal and all-year volunteers to support donors and collect the shoeboxes in the area near the volunteer.
