We are looking for dog-loving, queer people (or allies) to join us as Non Executive Directors. Roles include: Secretary, Fundraiser, Deputy Safeguarding Lead.
Role Profile: Non-Executive Director (voluntary) at Rainbow Pooch Pride Ltd.
Position: Non-Executive Director (voluntary)
Commitment: Four Board meetings and one Annual General Meeting (AGM) per year, with additional ad hoc meetings as needed.
Location: Fully remote is possible or hybrid with the possibility of in-person meetings
About Rainbow Pooch Pride Ltd.:
Rainbow Pooch Pride Ltd. is a social enterprise that unites the LGBTQIA+ community through a shared love of dogs. We celebrate the special role that a Rainbow Pooch plays in the lives of LGBTQIA+ individuals, acting as silent support and loyal companions. Our mission promotes mental and physical wellbeing, responsible dog ownership, and LGBTQIA+ support through events and services, fostering an inclusive and vibrant community.
Role Summary: You will join a dedicated Board of Directors committed to LGBTQIA+ affirmation and a shared love for dogs. You will play a key role in ensuring strong governance, upholding the organisation’s values and Articles of Association, and supporting its mission and sustainable growth.
Responsibilities of the Board of Directors:
- Policy Development: Develop and review policies that guide the organisation’s operations, ensuring adherence to legal and ethical standards.
- Risk Management: Identify potential risks to the organisation’s operations, reputation, or stakeholders and devise strategies for risk mitigation.
- Legal Compliance: Stay informed about legal requirements for social enterprises (particularly Limited Companies by Guarantee) and ensure the organisation operates within the legal framework and maintains proper records.
- Transparency and Accountability: Advocate for transparency and accountability throughout the organisation, establishing mechanisms for reporting, monitoring, and addressing concerns.
- Strategic Planning: Incorporate good governance practices and participate in strategic planning discussions to define the organisation’s long-term goals and objectives.
- Code of Conduct: Promote and uphold a code of conduct for all stakeholders involved with the organisation, emphasising respect, inclusivity, and ethical behaviour.
- Financial Oversight: Monitor the organisation’s financial health, including budget review and adherence to financial controls.
- Annual Reporting: Produce annual reports and documentation that provide stakeholders with insights into the organisation’s achievements, challenges, and financial performance.
Personal Responsibility: As a Non-Executive Director, you will contribute to the organisation’s growth and success in supporting the LGBTQIA+ community. Using your expertise, you will collaborate with other Directors to promote governance and an inclusive environment. This role requires attending at least four Management Committee meetings and one AGM per year, each lasting up to two hours, either online or in person, along with any additional ad hoc meetings as needed.
Skills and Qualifications:
Essential:
- A passion for promoting animal welfare and the well-being of dogs.
- A strong commitment to, and evidence of, inclusivity and promoting LGBTQIA+ rights.
- A commitment to the mission and values of Rainbow Pooch Pride Ltd..
- Experience in organisational, administrative, and/or leadership roles.
Desirable:
- Experience in governance roles, ideally within non-profit organisations or community groups.
- Strong strategic planning abilities, with a proven track record of aligning initiatives with organisational goals.
- Financial literacy, with familiarity in budgeting and financial oversight.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective engagement with diverse stakeholders.
Specific Recruitment Needs:
While we welcome applicants with a range of skills and experiences, we are particularly interested in recruiting individuals who can take on the following roles:
- Secretary - Supporting the smooth running of meetings, record-keeping, and ensuring effective communication.
- Fundraiser - Support income generation through fundraising activities, focusing on identifying grant opportunities and bid writing.
- Deputy Safeguarding Lead - Assisting in ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants and stakeholders.
Additional Requirements:
All Directors of Rainbow Pooch Pride Ltd. must meet legal and financial suitability requirements. This includes undergoing a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, an adverse credit history check, and confirming they are not disqualified from acting as a director under the Company Directors Disqualification Act 1986.
