The Coordinator Supporter manages the team of coordinators, ensuring that they feel supported and can themselves manage our coaches and learner readers.

You will:

  • Communicate with and coordinate our team of coordinators, each of whom manages 8 coaches and learner readers.
  • Attend and invite Coordinators to attend Management Team meetings (typically every 6-8 weeks)
  • Collate your group’s Coordinators’ report ready for each Management Team meeting
  • Support the Volunteer Recruiter with the recruitment of further Coordinators
  • Lead on the induction of new Coordinators
  • Hold 8 weekly  Coordinator meetings which the Literacy Specialist also attends.
  • Contribute to the planning and preparation of coach meetings where coaches receive training and updates.

The skills you will need

  • Good communication and people skills, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Leadership skills, an ability to motivate others and experience of running meetings for a small team.
  • Reasonable confidence in using IT.
  • The ability to use initiative and work independently.
  • A willingness to abide by Read Easy policies and procedures.
  • An open attitude that encourages two-way communication and willingness to ask for and offer support to the Team.
  • The ability to listen, a non-judgemental attitude and respect for others, with a commitment to equality and diversity, so that you can make everyone feel valued and included.
  • Energy and enthusiasm with an average of two hours a week to commit to the role.

What’s in it for you?

  • The opportunity to meet people from a range of backgrounds in your community
  • A sense of satisfaction at working collaboratively with people and volunteers who are committed to improving adult literacy
  • Fulfilment at knowing you are contributing to changing the lives of those less fortunate than yourself.

How we will support you

  • You will be provided with the Management Team Handbook, Coordinator Handbook, Reading Coach Handbook and will complete Reading Coach Training for your role to ensure that you know what is expected of Read Easy Reading Coaches and in turn their Coordinators.
  • You will be given an induction and access to all the policies and guidance specifically needed for this role, including access to support from a Read Easy UK Regional Adviser, via your Team Leader.
  • You will also be invited to Read Easy UK’s regional forums, online national forums and conference which give volunteers an opportunity for networking with other Coordinator Supporters from other groups.

Please note: All Read Easy volunteer roles are subject to Safer Recruitment procedures which include verification of identity and two references, and eligibility for Management Team roles in line with Charity Commission regulations for trustees. This role also requires an Enhanced DBS Check (in line with DBS Code of Practice).
