Summary
Bike Buddies are volunteer cyclists. The rides they plan build cycling confidence, reduce isolation, and support newly arrived refugees to the UK.
Detailed description
Bike Buddies are local volunteer cyclists in Birmingham, Coventry and London who are paired with a refugee or asylum seeker for at least three rides. These rides help participants build cycling confidence, reduce isolation, and support social integration. The role is flexible and rewarding—volunteers don’t need to be instructors, just confident, friendly cyclists. Training is provided through two short online induction sessions.
This programme is a key part of our mission to help newly arrived individuals feel more connected, independent, and supported in their new city. Our charities core mission is to get refugees cycling and we do this through refurbishing second-hand bikes and donating them to refugees and asylum seeking people.

About The Bike Project
We take in secondhand bikes, refurbish them and donate them to refugees and asylum seekers. We also offer Pedal Power, cycling lessons for woman and non-binary people and a cycling befriending programme called Bike Buddies.
