We are looking for Wellbeing Volunteers to join our team on a Tuesday afternoon to help deliver group activities to students at Birmingham City University.

What you’ll be doing: To be effective in this role, you will need to be available on a Tuesday afternoon 12-4pm.

The key activities of the role will include:

  • Supporting students to talk about their feelings and make positive steps towards achieving good mental health in a group setting.
  • Participating and helping to facilitate student focused groups and workshops with staff.
  • Creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, promoting the service and giving concise and relevant information.
  • Building rapport with students and providing skills and techniques to support their emotional well-being (for example, mindfulness and self-help resources.
  • Providing risk assessment information to staff.

Who are we looking for? 

(Formal qualifications are not required as full training will be provided.)

To be effective in this role, we ask that you:

  • Have a high level of empathy for young people and a passion for the role.
  • Provide a non-judgemental, listening ear to support students with their emotional wellbeing.
  • Are reliable and committed to volunteering at Pause@Uni (Tuesday afternoon - 4 hours a week)
  • Are able to make students feel welcome and comfortable
  • Are able to communicate and engage with students and staff members.
  • Are able to volunteer as part of a large multidisciplinary team of staff and volunteers.
  • Have a good level of spoken and written English.
