Online Role - Monitors community WhatsApp and Nextdoor groups, logs reports, promotes community safety, ensures rules are followed.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Moderating community WhatsApp, Nextdoor, and social media groups.
  • Ensuring members follow community rules and maintain respectful communication.
  • Monitoring and logging reports from residents.
  • Encouraging residents to report crime, anti-social behaviour, environmental problems, and safeguarding concerns through the appropriate channels.
  • Providing guidance on how and where to report local issues.
  • Escalating urgent concerns to staff, emergency services, or relevant agencies where appropriate.
  • Helping identify community safety trends and recurring local issues.
  • Promoting crime prevention, personal safety, and community awareness campaigns.
  • Supporting local events, neighbourhood initiatives, and community engagement activities.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and handling sensitive information responsibly.
  • Working closely with staff, volunteers, local authorities, police, housing providers, and community partners to improve neighbourhood safety.

Skills and Qualities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Friendly, approachable, and non-judgemental.
  • Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, fair, and professional.
  • Basic IT skills and confidence using WhatsApp, Nextdoor, email, and online reporting systems.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and data protection.
  • Passion for improving community safety and supporting local residents.

Impact of the Role

By helping residents share information safely, report concerns, and access the right support, the Community Safety Officer contributes to creating stronger neighbourhoods, reducing community issues, improving communication between residents and local services, and helping everyone feel safer where they live.
