The Online Community Officer helps create a welcoming, safe, and supportive online community for West Midlands Community Action.
Key Responsibilities
- Moderate community groups on Facebook, WhatsApp, Nextdoor, and other online platforms.
- Welcome new members and encourage participation.
- Respond to general enquiries and signpost people to appropriate services.
- Share community news, events, volunteering opportunities, and local support.
- Promote kindness, inclusion, and respectful online behaviour.
- Monitor discussions and remove inappropriate content where necessary.
- Report safeguarding concerns or serious issues to the relevant team.
- Help identify community needs and trends through online engagement.
- Support online campaigns to raise awareness of community initiatives.
- Work with other volunteers to grow and strengthen the online community.
Skills & Qualities
- Friendly, approachable, and a good communicator.
- Confident using social media and online platforms.
- Good written English and attention to detail.
- Able to remain calm, fair, and professional.
- Passionate about supporting local communities.
- Respect for confidentiality and safeguarding.
- Reliable and able to work independently.
Time Commitment
- Flexible volunteering.
- Approximately 2–5 hours per week (or as agreed).
Training & Support
Volunteers will receive:
- Full induction and ongoing support.
- Training in safeguarding, online moderation, and community engagement.
- Access to organisational policies and guidance.
- Opportunities to develop digital communication and leadership skills.
