Volunteer Officer (Volunteer Role)

Role Purpose

The Volunteer Officer is responsible for recruiting, supporting, and coordinating volunteers to help deliver the organisation's community services, events, and projects. The role ensures volunteers have a positive experience while contributing to reducing isolation, improving wellbeing, and strengthening local communities across Birmingham and the West Midlands.

Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit and onboard new volunteers.
  • Respond to volunteer enquiries and applications.
  • Arrange volunteer interviews, inductions, and training sessions.
  • Match volunteers with suitable roles based on their skills, experience, and interests.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records, contact details, and availability.
  • Provide ongoing support, guidance, and regular check-ins with volunteers.
  • Coordinate volunteer rotas for events, community activities, and services.
  • Recognise and celebrate volunteer achievements and contributions.
  • Ensure volunteers understand organisational policies, safeguarding procedures, and health and safety requirements.
  • Help resolve volunteer concerns or issues professionally and confidentially.
  • Promote volunteering opportunities through social media, community groups, and local networks.
  • Work closely with staff and other volunteers to ensure services are delivered effectively.
  • Collect volunteer feedback and help improve the volunteer programme.
  • Support community events, outreach activities, and awareness campaigns when required.

Skills and Qualities

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Friendly, approachable, and supportive attitude.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to motivate and encourage others.
  • Confident using email, Microsoft Office, and online systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Understanding of equality, diversity, inclusion, and confidentiality.
  • A commitment to supporting local communities and reducing loneliness and social isolation.
