The Trustee Member will work as part of the Board of Trustees to provide effective governance, oversight and strategic direction
The role involves contributing to Board decisions, providing constructive challenge and helping ensure WMDA remains focused on its mission, values and commitment to disabled people and the wider community.
Key Responsibilities
- Attend Board meetings and contribute actively to discussions and decisions.
- Help provide effective governance and oversight of WMDA.
- Support the Board in setting and reviewing the organisation's strategic direction.
- Uphold WMDA's values, mission and community-benefit purpose.
- Act in the best interests of WMDA and the communities it serves.
- Help monitor organisational performance and progress against agreed objectives.
- Approve and review key policies and procedures.
- Support appropriate financial oversight and accountability.
- Identify and consider organisational risks.
- Declare and appropriately manage any conflicts of interest.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle organisational information responsibly.
- Work collaboratively with other Trustees, staff and volunteers.
- Support WMDA's commitment to inclusion, accessibility and reducing isolation for disabled people.

- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a Board.
- Good communication and listening skills.

- Willingness to contribute to discussions and decision-making.

Desirable
Experience or knowledge in one or more of the following areas:
- Governance or Board work
- Finance
- Community development
- Disability and inclusion
- Social enterprise or voluntary-sector organisations
- Safeguarding
- Human resources
- Legal or regulatory matters
- Fundraising
- Partnership development
- Community engagement
Commitment
Trustees are expected to:
- Attend scheduled Board meetings and prepare in advance.
- Read relevant papers and information before meetings.
- Participate constructively in Board discussions.
- Complete agreed actions within the required timeframe.
- Support the organisation's strategic and community objectives.
- Keep information confidential.
- Declare any relevant conflicts of interest.
- Act collectively with the other members of the Board.

WMDA welcomes Trustees with different backgrounds, experiences and skills.
You do not need to have experience in every area listed above. We particularly value lived experience, community knowledge, diversity, inclusion and a genuine commitment to improving opportunities, connections and support for disabled people.
Appointment
The appointment will normally be for an initial 3-year term, subject to WMDA's governing arrangements and Board procedures.
