The Volunteer Support Assistant supports disabled volunteers within the group to help them feel confident, included and able to carry out their volunteer role e
Key responsibilities:
- Support disabled volunteers with understanding their role, responsibilities and tasks.
- Help volunteers stay focused on agreed tasks and provide support where they may become unsure or overwhelmed.
- Facilitate communication between volunteers, staff, team members and the relevant line manager.
- Support volunteers with their individual communication needs and help explain information in a clear and accessible way.
- Talk through tasks and responsibilities with volunteers, breaking information down where needed.
- Check in with volunteers to make sure they understand what is expected of them and feel able to complete their role.
- Encourage volunteers to work independently while providing appropriate support when required.
- Ensure volunteers are following the organisation's agreed guidelines, procedures and expectations.
- Identify any difficulties, concerns or support needs and communicate these to the appropriate line manager.
- Liaise regularly with the line manager regarding volunteer progress, support needs, tasks and any concerns.
- Help create an inclusive and supportive volunteering environment where disabled volunteers can contribute meaningfully.
- Maintain appropriate confidentiality and follow safeguarding, equality, accessibility and organisational procedures.
- Provide feedback to the line manager where additional training, adjustments or support may be beneficial.
