Summary
This amazing role involves overseeing the smooth-running of an exciting community event in which children will learn about etiquette, morals and values!Detailed description
Organising uplifting activities and memorable learning experiences for the community has always been our focus at i60 Community Interest Company. We started in 2022 with keyboard lessons for the Over-50's and eventually organised Birmingham's first-ever Christmas Concert dedicated to the Over-50's and their families at the Bullring!
Shortly after the concert and reflecting on how much fun the children and young people were having as they watched their grandparents sing, perform and dance, we decided to adopt the African Village concept of intergenerational learning. Essentially, this involves children and young people learning side-by-side with their parents and grandparents. This worked out really well with our African Talking Drums & Percussions workshops!
This powerful "Village" approach bridges the generation gap, strengthens harmony in the community and allows the "Elders" an opportunity to impart wisdom into the younger generation (something that is rarely heard of in postmodern times).
Starting in July, as part of our "Tell and Share Project", we shall be having the Village Square Citadel on the first Saturday of each month. This culturally-rich event will bring children, parents and grandparents together, allowing them to learn and play together. In ways that the younger generation can understand, Elders will be able to "Tell and Share" their stories and life experiences so that our children can learn life-lessons that are not taught in school. More importantly, The Village Square will equip children and young people with the etiquette, morals and values that are rapidly fading from society. This is the ultimate goal. This is our vision.
Such an event can be demanding but is certainly worth it. Therefore, we are in need of focused, disciplined and well-organised individuals who can volunteer as Event Coordinators. The primary role of the Event Coordinators is to oversee and ensure the smooth-running of each edition of The Village Square.
Primary Responsibilities shall include:
- Assisting management to achieve the event goals
- Coordinating the setting up of the venue
- Supervising the Event Assistants (Event Hosts/Hostesses)
- Overseeing the admission and seating of attendees
- Liaising with Guest Performers
- Ensure adherence to the event itinerary and performance schedule
- Attending to invited Celebrity Guests and Guest Speakers upon arrival
- Address any issues or concerns raised by guests or attendees.
This role is significant and the value you will be adding to the children and families in attendance would be priceless. In appreciation and recognition of your immense contribution, we shall issue you with:
- A Certificate of Appreciation
- A Reference Letter (upon request)
- Full Sponsorship to one of our certified Public Speaking Courses (subject to satisfactory performance)
- Additional Support to enable you fulfil your career goals and future ambitions
Could this role be for you?
The ancient African adage which says, "It takes a village to raise a child" is timeless. However, when you take up this role, the adage becomes timely. "Timely" because, more than ever before, our children, young people and society as a whole are in need of a renewed revival of etiquette, morals and values.
Experience in Event Planning or the coordination and hosting of large events (involving 200+ attendees) would be a plus but is not mandatory. However, you will be required and expected to demonstrate your competence and ability to handle this role. If you consider yourself suitable for this Event Coordinator role, or are willing to serve as an Event Assistant, we would like to hear from you. No role is too small and, together, we can all make a difference!
We heartily look forward to hearing from you.
