Volunteer learning support assistants to support adult learners (Post 19+ only) term time only during the academic year from September to July.
Our volunteers provide additional learning support under the full supervision of experienced class teachers, in onsite and online courses, including English Language, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), Maths, Special Education Needs courses, Modern Foreign Languages, as well as other vocational courses at various levels, from beginners to advanced.
Volunteers will gain valuable learning support experience within one of the largest and highly rated adult education providers in the UK.
Volunteer placements are based entirely on learner needs within each course. There is no minimum or maximum number of hours required each week. We ask for consistency, reliability, and some flexibility so that we can best meet the needs of our learners.
Two satisfactory character references will be required to proceed to the interview stage.
A minimum English Language Level 2/GCSE qualification or working towards Level 2 during this academic year is required to provide effective support. Full details of other relevant qualifications, including Maths, will be required in the application form. Proof of qualifications will also be required.
Birmingham City Council is a Disability Confident Leader and is committed to ensuring an equitable and positive volunteering experience for everyone. If you require any accessibility support or reasonable adjustments for onsite or virtual placements, please include this information in your application.
An Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be required. The DBS check is free for volunteers, and further details will be provided at the appropriate time.
Proof of Right to Work in the UK will also be required in line with Home Office guidance.
Birmingham City Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our citizens, and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.
