About Birmingham Samaritans
The Samaritans was set up to support troubled people who are experiencing difficulties, including those who are feeling suicidal. The Birmingham branch has been in existence for more than 60 years and our 200 or so volunteers go through rigorous training, and then offer a service by phone, via email, online chat and in person. This is all delivered from our premises in Bow Street, which we aim to keep open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
We aim to be a lifeline to people who are in need and who may have no one else to turn to for support. Some of our callers find themselves anxious, lonely, unable to see a way forward. Although we do not tell people what to do, we give them the freedom to discuss their feelings and try to help them through difficult times. Callers turn to us knowing that their conversations will be anonymous, confidential, and non-judgemental.
