What Will You Do?
- complete an introduction to Citizens Advice and training for your role
- be a friendly face for patients & their families
- handout leaflets to patients at the hospital to promote the service
- where appropriate, give general, simple and effective information to patients
- look out for problems’ that are common, or are unfair, and help write a short report about the problem
How much time do you need to give?
We are looking for individuals who can volunteer 2, 3 or even 4 days a week out of Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Please note that this is not a short-term volunteering role - it will take several months to get you fully trained and confident in the role.
Travel expenses are covered up to the cost of a day saver bus ticket (£5.20).
This role takes place at the following locations and times;
Mondays & Tuesdays – 09:00-16:30
Birmingham Women’s Hospital
Mindelsohn Way, Edgbaston, Birmingham B15 2TG
Thursdays & Fridays – 09:00-16:30
Birmingham Children’s Hospital
Steelhouse Lane, Birmingham B4 6NH

What do you need to have?
You don’t need specific qualifications or skills, but you’ll need to:
- be aged 18 or over.
- be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
- be friendly and approachable.
- be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own.
- have good listening skills.
- have good resilience – you will be listening to many vulnerable people who are in the midst of challenging times.
- have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- have good maths and IT skills.
- be able to understand information and explain it to others.
- be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles, and policies, including confidentiality and data protection.
- be willing to undertake training in your role.
