About It Gets Better UK
LGBTQ+ youth in the UK face serious mental health challenges, worsened by societal stigma, discrimination, and a lack of support:
- 1 in 5 LGBTQ+ young people have experienced suicidal thoughts, and 33% have self-harmed.
- 1 in 4 LGBTQ+ students face bullying at school due to their sexual orientation or gender identity.
- LGBTQ+ youth rejected by their families are more than eight times more likely to attempt suicide.
In a world which often tells LGBTQ+ young people not to be themselves, we're providing LGBTQ+ youth with the tools, resources, and support they need to navigate their identities safely, and know they are not alone and that their futures are filled with limitless possibilities. We collect and share the stories of LGBTQ+ adults who've been there themselves, to help LGBTQ+ young people find a community where they can see themselves reflected and envisage a future worth experiencing.
We hold stalls at Prides across the UK where people can access our resources, contribute to our storytelling project, and share their own perspectives and experiences. We're looking for Stall Helpers who can contribute to our efforts to share our message of hope with those who most need it.
