We are looking for volunteers to help out fortnightly on Tuesday evenings, helping people facing poverty

With the end of food grant funding for so many charities, we are now implementing a Change Programme in Birmingham which will address the deeper issues of people who are facing poverty. We are recruiting for a team of local volunteers who are Birmingham-based.

Volunteers will initially help with outreach, assisting our caseworker to find people in poverty who may not be able to get online so they can get support; carry out area clean-ups, reporting issues like fly-tipping taking part in litter picking etc. transforming not just the people experiencing poverty, but the areas they live in too.

We will offer the most committed members of the group training in advocacy so you can support people with things like form filling and digital support. Training will be run by our caseworker, and there will be opportunities for leadership with proven commitment.

Volunteering will take place fortnightly, usually on a Tuesday evening to fit around work commitments. We are looking for people who can commit to around two hours a fortnight, and most of our work will take place in summer, but we will continue to check in with service users through the year as needed.

For those taking on advocacy, we will require DBS checks, which we have funding for.

Unfortunately, we can’t cover any expenses. Applicants must be Birmingham-based, or able to travel to Birmingham for volunteering.
